Honduras

Our Mission

This will be our 13th year serving with the Missioners of Christ based in Comayagua, Honduras.  They have been serving the people of Honduras since 1998 and have lived in Honduras since 2003.  They are a Catholic community that works in partnership with the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal and the Diocese of Comayagua to meet the needs of the poor and creating programs for discipleship and evangelization for the youth and young adults in the surrounding mountain villages.  Our group, typically consisting of 28 students and two staff members, will join in the Missioner’s mountain missions.  We will start each day with home visits, sharing the Gospel with the families and inviting them to participate in our daily programs.  Then, in the afternoon and evening, we will lead programs for the children, teens, and adults at the local church.  It will be an incredible experience to encounter deeply the people of Honduras and share Jesus with them.

Required Preparation Meetings

As part of our mission trip experience, we will have preparation meetings. These meetings will take place on the following Sunday afternoons from 2-3:30pm. All meetings will be mandatory. In these meetings we will cover what it means to be a missionary disciple, fundraising as a ministry, we will grow as a team, learn how to pray (individually and appropriately with others), learn common flaws of mission trips and how we plan to avoid those, learn how to create a culture of encounter, and how to live into the culture of Honduras.

COVID Precautions

Our priority is always the safety of our students and those we will encounter on mission. Please be aware that all mission trips will operate within COVID guidelines deemed necessary by St. Mary’s and the mission organization. These guidelines and trips are subject to change at any point during the preparation process. If anything changes with the current nature of our mission locations, we will make decisions as needed. As of now, we have brainstormed ways to offer mission and work with these organizations while keeping safety in mind.

Student Testimonies

“We were invited to have dinner in one of the homes and the elderly woman seemed very happy and at peace that we were in her home. Then at the time we had dinner, they gave everything they had and more. Realizing that God has no barriers and that He will always provide for His people was an experience that truly changed me.”

"When I went to Honduras, I experienced a simplicity and a wholeness in the people that I did not yet see in the States.
Yes, these people lived without many material things, but they were so in touch with what mattered--their faith, their families and their relationships."

"The testimonies of all of those Hondurans truly affected me. They have decided to follow God, and it was their faith who had helped them overcome any difficult circumstances. Even though it was not easy for them to follow God's invitation to serve Him, they would always put Him on the first place of their lives, by offering all the suffering and difficulties encountered."
