Conversations about Contemporary Concerns

From June 1 to August 3, 2010


Our faith calls us to learn about issues affecting members of our human family and to reflect on those issues in the light of the Catholic Social Teaching. During the summer 2010 the Conversations about Contemporary Concerns offer the opportunity to all interested to learn together about a different topic each week through a short presentation followed by a discussion. Come to the 10-week series or for any one of the sessions.

On June 1: this session entitled "Deserving and Undeserving Poor" concerned domestic poverty and welfare.

On June 8: the presentation "Many faces in God's House" and followoing discussion focused on racism and discrimination.

On June 14: the presentation "Dominion over All Things - Care for God’s Creation" and followoing discussion focused on the environment and the call to be good steward of the earth..

On June 22: the presentation "Making Ends Meet" and following discussion was about just and living wages

On June 29: the presentation is entitled "Welcoming Christ in the Migrant" and concerned immigration.

On July 6: in "Condemned to Die",  Fr. David Konderla talked and led the discussion about the death penatly.

On July 13: the presentation "In Defense of Human Life: Right to Health Care" and follwoing discussion was about the health care reform.

On July 20: the presentation "The Scandal of Hunger in a World of Plenty" was about  world hunger, food and agriculture policie.

On July 27: Fr. Chris Downey will talk and lead a discussion about the "Common Good".

On Aug 3: the presentation and discussion was about "Africa: Challenges and Hopes"
