Lectors - Ministers of the Word
Lectors proclaim the Word of God at Mass. If you have good speaking abilities or are experienced in drama or poetry, this is an ideal way for you to serve the community.
Volunteer Needed signal
Any time you come to Mass and see a bookmark hanging on the front of the ambo, that means we need a lector to volunteer. Just:
- Go get the bookmark from the ambo, take it back to the sacristy and sign-in at the lector board.
- Say hello to the liturgy coordinator, if possible, so they know who the lector will be.
Prayers of the Faithful
Prayers of the Faithful (a.k.a. General Intercessions) are a very important part of Mass, where the community's needs and and prayer intentions are gathered together and presented to God from a unique and special setting, the celebration of the liturgy. If you'd like to help compose the prayers, please contact Mike.
Daily Mass
Lectors aren't scheduled for daily Mass - it's on a volunteer basis. To volunteer, just:
Take the bookmark from the table in the church entrance.
Ask the liturgy coordinator if a lector is needed.
If it's a Solemnity, there may be two readings and you may need to carry a candle in the opening procession; check with the coordinator.
Please contact Tim Simpson, the coordinator of Lectors,
for more info about this important liturgical ministry.
